In this post, we present a brief overview of our recently published book chapter titled “Spectroscopic Methods for Analysing Herbal Medicine and their Roles in Healthcare”

Because of their affordability and ease of use, spectrophotometric techniques have many benefits in pharmaceutical analysis. Comparing these procedures to more sophisticated technologies like High-performance liquid chromatography or Liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry, they are simple to use and need comparatively cheap equipment.

a) Cost-Effectiveness and Simplicity: Spectrophotometric techniques are easier to use and far less expensive than more sophisticated analytical procedures like LCMS or HPLC. Because of this, they can be used regularly in quality control labs, where prompt and precise analysis is crucial.

b) Non-Destructive: Spectrophotometry’s major benefit is that it’s frequently a non-destructive technique. This makes it possible to analyse samples without consuming or changing them, which is particularly useful for examining costly or limited medicinal compounds.

c) Broad Applicability: Both organic and inorganic substances can be analysed using spectrophotometry over a wide spectrum of chemicals. Because of its adaptability, it can be used for a range of pharmaceutical applications, including impurity detection and drug formulation analysis.

d) Excellent Sensitivity: Spectrophotometric techniques can detect and quantify medicines at extremely low concentrations when used in conjunction with the right reagents. This makes it a useful technique for examining substances at the trace levels.
